Tell us about yourself first! What made you get into photography?
I first got into photography when my parents bought me a Kodak Fisher Price 110mm camera for my 5th birthday. I was very shy as a child and did not like going out or interacting with people but found that being behind a camera eased my anxiety and made me want to venture out to take photos.
What is your preferred photography style and subjects to shoot?
My preferred style is long exposure photography, i enjoy using it to shoot landscapes, portraits and street photography.
How did you get into building cameras?
This was the first camera that I’ve built.
How did you find Dora Goodman, and what made you decide to take the leap?
I found Dora Goodman while researching info on building a 4x5 camera. While researching I came across some 3D printed cameras which lead me to Dora. I decided to take the leap into 3D printed cameras after realizing building a 4x5 from scratch was beyond my capabilities and I already had all the lenses and film backs necessary for the Goodman cameras.
Which model did you choose and why?
I chose the Goodman Zone I already had all the lenses from my Mamiya Universal Press but I never used the camera because it was too bulky and heavy to carry around. The Zone gave me the ability to put the lenses to use with a camera that is much easier to carry
Did you made any change in the camera files? If yes, what and how? If not, is there anything that you would be happy to change?
I did not make any changes to the files. If i had more experience with 3D design I would love to make a mod for a polaroid back.
What was the most challenging part of building your own camera?
The build itself was very easy. There were some minor light leaks but I was able to fix that by gluing a thin layer of foam to the back of the camera. I had zero experience with 3D printers but was fortunate enough to have a friend who was able to walk me through the process. It took a few tries to get a print that was usable, I definitely would have not been able to do it on my own.
How would you compare this journey to buying a ready made camera?
Building the camera and seeing the first roll of film developed from it definitely gave me a sense of fulfilment I had not experienced before.
Show us some photos what you have made with your new camera!
Do you have any advice for first time camera builders?
Take your time, enjoy the process.
